During Black History Month, we honor the African American activists and leaders who are fighting hunger

Prior to the pandemic, we saw decreases in hunger in communities across the U.S. We would not have made that incredible progress fighting hunger without African American leadership.

Leaders like Marian Wright Edelman, who founded the Children’s Defense Fund, has been advocating for more than 40 years to end hunger and poverty faced by children across the country. Or the late Congressman Mickey Leland, who championed and led the United States House of Representative’s Select Committee on Hunger, and stressed the importance of American corporations’ support of food banks and community feeding programs in fighting poverty and hunger.

During Black History Month, we honor the African American activists and leaders who were on the ground implementing programs that we still use today to ensure that kids across the country have the meals they need to learn and thrive.

Now that we are facing another hunger crisis in this country the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation will continue to channel leaders from the past and present, and work to build on their accomplishments to ensure that no child is hungry now or in the future.
