There are staggering numbers of Asian Americans struggling with food insecurity
Over the course of the pandemic, we have seen an appalling rise in acts of violence against members of the Asian American communities across the country. During this time, we have also seen staggering numbers of Asian Americans struggling with food insecurity. A recent NBC News report cited that currently 1 in 4 Asian-Americans living in NYC are living in poverty and at a greater risk to be food insecure.
Now more than ever it is the time for us to stand in solidarity with members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. We are proud to work with our colleagues in Pan Asian Network Group, Sodexo’s employee business resource group to provide resources to fight hunger in Asian communities across the country.
As we move into the final week of Servathon, I encourage you to think critically about communities that might get overlooked in our efforts to stop hunger. Over the next week, as we are finalizing our food drives, and in the future, let us remain mindful and try our best to collect culturally appropriate foods, in addition to the food pantry staples that are needed in each and every community where Sodexo employees live and work.
